As everyone already knows, today is St George’s Day…and it is nice to see that people are now paying our patron saint a bit more attention.  And so they should!!Angleterre.gif Happy St Georges Day image by suesurgenor

For too long, other patron saints have received far more attention than St George…even becoming big commercially (but enough of that, here!), but us English people seem to have become afraid of being proud of our Englishness…why?!!

I think that some of this is down to negative councils and the PC Gestapo who have, in the past, tried to ban people from flying their national flag and showing any kind of patriotism…for fear of offending ‘ethnic minorities’!  What planet do these people come from?!!

If we go abroad, we must respect other country’s laws, customs and religions…and the same applies to foreigners who come here!!  We are English…we are proud to be English…and we are going to show the world our patriotism!  So like it or not, foreign peeps…we are flying the flags for England…and St George…!!!!

If we supported St Georges Day would it really be Patriotism or the chancing Commercial money grabbers who sub consciencsly make us think we are doing out of duty to our country?

I agree with you Sandi, it doesn\’t matter….though i\’d simply deport any members of the pc brigade to North Korea and see how much their views impacted there…..methinks they\’d keep pretty stum! 🙂 If it makes us feel good then i\’m all for it and it doesn\’t have to cost much, i\’ve recently bought a red scarf (now bear in mind that i\’m a Chelsea fan and it feels weird wearing it lol) and wear once a week following an email thingy that i\’m sure everyone\’s seen in last month asking us to make each friday Red Friday! 🙂 xxx

Me and my work mate are well out numbered by the Welsh and Scots at work …but I made sure we had the flag flying from the portacabin at work this morning. At around 07.45 a lorry driver who had set off from Hereford at 05.00 ( Young Polish lad ) delivered the site some steel structures..the mate and I banked him in assisted him unload..then went made him a cup of tea and had chat about Hereford. The rest at the site never offered him this small courtesy….must be an ENGLISH thing….Waaaay ….to go Sandi….. LABW LABW xXx

Let\’s hear it for the English…!!! No matter what shit we all complain about in this bloody country of ours…there\’s no place I would rather be!!! No matter what Brussels dictates, there are still many things that they just cannot destroy…like all the wierd and wonderful customs and traditions that are so very English….like the Haxey Hood and Padstow Hobby Horse, Morris Men, cheese rolling, shin kicking…and a game of football in a river…to name but a few. I wish I\’d watched that series where Rory McGrath and that other chappie travelled around the country looking at all the strange customs…and joining in…then sampling the local ales and food afterwards…!! Now that\’s what this country is all about!!! Crazy or what…!!!

Land of Hope and Glory, Mother of the Free, How shall we extol thee, who are born of thee? Wider still, and wider, shall thy bounds be set; God, who made thee mighty, make thee mightier yet! Truth and Right and Freedom, each a holy gem, Stars of solemn brightness, weave thy diadem. Tho\’ thy way be darkened, still in splendour drest, As the star that trembles o\’er the liquid West. Throned amid the billows, throned inviolate, Thou hast reigned victorious, thou has smiled at fate. Land of Hope and Glory, fortress of the Free, How may we extol thee, praise thee, honour thee? Hark, a mighty nation maketh glad reply; Lo, our lips are thankful, lo, our hearts are high! Hearts in hope uplifted, loyal lips that sing; Strong in faith and freedom, we have crowned our King!

Thanks for that, you two. As PF would say…is there video evidence of you singing it…?!!!This has got me thinking about another subject to blog about…English customs and festivals, etc…as I mentioned below…things like the Haxey Hood and Padstow Hobby Horse, cheese rolling and shin-kicking contests….Right, I\’ve got some reading and research to do…!!!

This sentence from Land of Hope and Glory should be delved into deeper I think …Wider still, and wider, shall thy bounds be set…..unfortunately our bounds are less wide than once were. By the sight of all the high rise being built to accomodate those under the wing of our Fortress of the Free it should be changed to \’Higher still and higher, let others set the bounds\’

Too true…our freedoms are being eroded bit by bit…by a government that is scared to stand up and be counted…to stand up for our freedoms…to stand up for what is right and just…and I\’m on that bloody soapbox again…!!!!
