Born Again Tourist – Part 3

May 25, 2009

Commercial Row – Here you will find a stonemasons, brick-maker, basket-maker, hardware store, post-office, old printing press in a print shop, baker, draper, and chemist (I think that’s all of them).  The displays in this wing were added in 1984, and I also helped with this…while painting the big storage shelves in the hardware shop, Jeff and I ended up watering down the paint to make it go further.  We didn’t paint the backs of the side pieces as we were fast running out!  They ended up putting a big mirror in that corner and our economy is now clearly visible to all!!!

Of course, writing these blogs has been hard work, because I am biased.  Yes, I have been saddened by a couple of the changes, as they have spoiled the continuity.  The old displays were designed to lead the visitor on a journey of discovery, flowing from one area to the next, which the new layout does not have.  It’s disjointed…and I’m disappointed.

But on the whole, it was an enjoyable couple of hours…and it was free (apart from parting company with a few coins in the gift-shop!)

At weekends, Ellis’ Windmill is also open to the public.  This is situated behind the museum on Mill Road…and is also free.  Bargain!  A visit for another day….

I have just spent several hours writing and editing this blog, adding photos, dividing it into three, and jiggling about with it. I saved Part 2 to Drafts and carried on with Part 3. When I finished that, I also saved it to Drafts…and Part 2 has bloody vanished!! I\’m flamin\’ peeved now!!!

Aw!!! Poor Sandi.It\’s a wonderfully presented blog and I adore the font. If you wrote it on Live writer, I\’m sure it\’s in there somewhere…….. (I hope!!) I have a habit of making a copy of whatever I write and storing it in an E Mail draft also. Use ful if you want to send it on to someone. Also easier to find I think. Re, Rodney givng you a paint brush, your Middle names not Del by any chance??Night Night. xxP.s Have you noticed recently that it getting very quiet in Spaces?? :oS Soon there will be old bones and cobwebs every where.

Part 2 vanished when I saved Part 3, so I get the feeling that there is only room for one Draft at a time!! I wondered if Part 2 would re-appear if I saved Part 3 to the Drafts on the blog…but it wasn\’t having any of it!! I think I will just have to re-write it all…if I can remember what I wrote!! If I had just written it as one blog it would have been very long…and I get the feeling that it would have taken all day to transfer it to the blog!!I\’m very peeved!!!

Might have to look at this Live Writer…..there\’s an elegance to the style you\’ve used and placement of pictures, though i don\’t blog often enough to worry about it! 🙂 I know nothing about it, but i\’m sure Natalia is right in that Part 2 is there somewhere….at least i hope so because you\’ve clearly put alot of effort into it Sandi! XxXxX

Thanks, Natalia and Mike…I do hope you are right or else I will be re-writing it and cutting it a bit shorter (patience in short supply now!!)The font is called Monotype Corsiva…I wrote it down because I liked it, and didn\’t want to try every font on there until I found the right one!You live and learn…!!

I noticed on the right hand of the screen on Live writer that it does list previous projects, perhaps the lost episode is there.

It isn\’t, though! I saved 3, and 2 vanished (from the list).Right, I\’m going to note where I finished here, then scribble down what I can remember of Part 2, and re-write it tomorrow! (Stomps off grinding teeth!)

There are plenty of shiny buttons and bayonets, and colours, and uniforms…ooh, talking of uniforms, I bought a couple of postcards of Andrew (ex Assistant Curator) in uniforms of the Lincolnshire Regiment 1775, and Lincolnshire Yeomanry uniform c1910. I might add them to the photo album…yes, I will….

I am going to re-write Part 2 this evening. I think that I have it all down, more or less as I originally wrote it…I just hope I haven\’t left anything out!

What is going on here?!!! I finally get Part 3 published…and it ends up taking Part 1s place after A Bit Of A Do!!

Odd. Part three is even dated 25th. My first attempt on Live writer replaced my last blog when I previewed it but on the actual space it was all ok.Something amiss with your entries. Shame after all your work and effort put in.

How odd…. it\’s replaced part 1 but left the comments.Shame it doesn\’t hold the same good memories you used to have, but at least it was a nice day. Thank you for sharing (even though it took so long and messed you about).Have a lovely day xxx

I\’m just going outside to have the screaming ab-dabs….I may be some time…!Isn\’t it enough to drive anyone round the bend…?!! I know that in future I will write it all out on paper, first, then blog it seperately, rather than trying to save it to Drafts…I\’m wondering if that is where all the problems have come from?! Grrrr!!!!!! (Stomps off gnashing teeth!!!!!!!!!)

I write mine in Word first and then copy and paste it in (the added benefit of spell and grammar check). When I was a kid I always dreamt of living in a converted windmill, I had even found the one I wanted in France – sadly some one has beaten me to it 😦

That\’s a good idea, Eileen, thanks. I can then write any number of entries and save \’em all, then copy and paste when I need \’em. Brilliant! I haven\’t used Word for a while, my little office assistant will be getting lonely…bless him. I just wish he\’d stop blowing himself up when I close it!! Cheeky little thing!

Lol.. I may have to go check him out.. it\’s always the first thing I close when setting new computers up! Like the autofix – when working in the building trade if I type soffit I do mean soffit not office! lol

Ah, good old soffits, facias and bargeboards…where would we be without \’em! I find the predictive text on the mobile extremely infuriating, so that is the first thing hat gets binned…bloody annoying!! With the spell-check thingy, I find it quite amusing when the words offered are nothing like my word…some of them are really strange!! LOL!!

My dad\’s like that! I use mine though it means I can text quicker, but mine has a learning facility so it remembers what I\’m likely to say. When I had a nokia it drove me nuts.

I\’ve got Robert\’s hand-me-down Motorola Razr. Raz-rrr…more like grrr! If I want to use it outdoors, I have to find somewhere faily dark, as the reflective surface makes it impossible to see the blasted keys. Why do phones now all have to be high-gloss and super shiny? I would like to be able to use the thing without being blinded by it!!!

Lol.. I\’ve got a Samsung (my own with a 5 meg camera) and an LG Viewty (works also with a 5 meg camera although this one is the better camera it\’s the worst phone.. it\’s touch screen and I still haven\’t learnt how to just dial numbers – I\’ve had it 13 months and I only just realised I could do video phonecalls).

Sometimes, I wonder if all this technology isn\’t too much! Phones these days seem to have more and more whistles and bells, when all a lot of people want is a simple phone to talk to people with…or text and take photos. That\’s all I want…not super-shiny with all the latest gadgets and gizmos. The novelty has worn off, for me, and finding a new phone gets ever more frustrating!!!

Jay had a razr, he managed to break it in record time, I always manage to make mine last till the contracts up – although my Viewty keeps crashing.. roll on September, then I get my new phone (with 8 meg camera) .. maybe I should just buy a camera? My Samsung G600 is a great phone Sandi, never had a problem with it, easy to text and use.

Hello gorgeous, hope you had a lovely weekend?I\’m not bothered about all this technology…that\’s why I just want a plain old mobile that gives me talk, text and camera, You can keep all the gadgets and gizmoes…my computer is basic, all I want in that department is a big memory. As long as stuff works, I\’m happy, but I prefer the history…when times were simpler, slower, less stressful. And as I have mentioned before, my dream holiday would be aboard a sailing ship in the middln empty ocean, wih no computers, mobile phones, MP3 players, etc…just the basic technology that is essential to safety, etc……(big sigh)
