More On Tanks, Burnt Offerings, & Feeling Silly!

June 12, 2009
I nearly bought a book today!  I say ‘nearly’, as I got to the till and went to pay for it…only to be told that I’d entered the wrong PIN.  I knew that I hadn’t, so I took the card out to try again…to find I was using the wrong card!  Pillock!! Embarrassed

That’s when I realised that I’d left my card at home as I knew I wouldn’t need it…wouldn’t need it, indeed!!!

An hour to kill is usually spent in a bookshop, where I’m quite safe as I’m usually skint.  This time I had a bit to spare (I’d decided) when I made up my mind to buy The Landships of Lincoln by Richard Pullen, a book all about Sir William Tritton, Fosters Engineering and the tanks that I’d just blogged about.  I looked through the book, which had loads of photos of male and female tanks, (I said I’d mention it, Andrew), diagrams and lots more besides.  I want it now!!

Last week, feeling hungry, I grabbed a fish pie from the freezer and bunged it in the microwave.  When it was done, I thought it looked a little insipid, so I cut some cheese and shoved it under the grill to brown it off a bit.  The smell of burning alerted me, as I’d turned away to do something else, and I found my grub on fire!!! Surprised  What a silly bugger…!!!  It was a cardboard container, wasn’t it!!! Embarrassed

Today, I had a fish pie for lunch….it was microwaved, had extra cheese added…but this time I took the scissors and cut the blasted rim off of the container.  Result!  Nicely browned cheesy topping.  Yum!!

So there you have it…I’ve been a silly-billy twice inside of a week!!  Is there any hope for me, I wonder….?  (I guess I could blame my AAADD…!!) Wink

Pilloc a small medieval drum, a relative of of another kind of drum a knacker that was always played in pairs (now you know where the term knackers comes from) — another useless bit of information from a student of medieval music!

Pillock according to dictionary is from norwegian word for P e n i s which is Pillicock, use of it now has become dick head. Apparently, so it says somewhere, who knows where on the net.

Re Brans comment regarding *pillock* there was I thinking it was something to do with the use pillory stocks used for punishment. If you were intered in one of those for the duration, you were regarded as a Pillock! Bran\’s information is interesting none the less.

I think you are flummoxed by the talk of \’pillocks\’, Chip? Bran, Anne, and Natalia have offered up meanings and origins of the word. (We have some very strange words/phrases in this country going back centuries, that have been corrupted with time.)Ah, you\’ve had the e-mail that was doing the rounds a couple of years ago, Eileen (2), about AAADD…Age Affected Attention Deficit Disorder…me all over! I spend the day being busy, busy, busy…then wonder just what it was I actually got done…!!! Doh!!

No, Eileen, he just shouted for Duckie to stop hiding, because she closed her space. PF calls people like them \’flamers\’. They pick on one or two people then go round their friends leaving nasty comments about them, and just love it when people take the bait. So, ignoring them is the best way to deal with them because you are not giving them what they want. But, of course, there are some who enjoy a good fight, aren\’t there, Robin…! Space knights who want to fight the good fight and rid the world of sad sickos…and because they enjoy the sport.I didn\’t bother reading much, I just noted the nasty comments and left…seen enough!

Best 2 simply ignore, they relish in peeps reacting, it\’s how they get their kicks, they want reactions, by giving them one u are playing straight into their hands, so in a way u are encouraging them!!!

I think it\’s time I wrote another blog…but what about…?!!Rachel…not been anywhere near town since Friday…what I might do is make a note of the ISBN, then if the book is not in, I will be able to order it…but it is definitely one that I want.I guess I could blog about my extremes in taste…like at the moment I am well into my dress-making, and my Promenade Dress is well under way, but at the same time I am interested in the development of the Landship that is now known as a tank…!
