Something…or Nothing

September 5, 2009

It’s been a while since I have blogged, so I thought that it was about time I wrote something.

‘Something.’

There you go…happy now?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Seriously, though, the last few weeks have not been very good ones for me, and that might have had something to do with my thyroid.  In May, I had radioiodine treatment for an over-active thyroid, and as the weeks have passed I had been  feeling the effects of going under-active.  A visit to the doctor for a blood test showed that it was indeed time to start taking Thyroxine.  Gradually, I have been feeling more myself…but not without a few stressful incidents along the way.
At work I had to deal with a useless idiot who seemed to think that ‘attack is the best form of defence’ by accusing me of lying, treating him like a slave, and more besides.  He’s history!  At the same time, my mum was unwell and had been admitted to hospital.  Then, a few short weeks ago my friend, Jo, text me to let me know that her partner, Alv, had been admitted to hospital with a suspected stroke that turned out to be a brain tumour.  Within three weeks he had died.  We went to his funeral on Tuesday.
Back at work, I had let everyone know that I would probably not be back in Lincoln in time, so the relief would be in.  I also let my boss know, and the acting supervisor, who had just had two weeks holiday.  Wednesday afternoon, I got a phone-call from my boss informing me that the acting supervisor had not turned up and that the other girls did not know how to go about locking up and had to ask one of the EA staff to do it for them.  There was also a hoo-ha because it was claimed that I’d left the relief in charge…a girl who speaks very little English and had only worked for us for two weeks!  Er…hello!!  So, why did no-one let me know?!!!
Apart from that…I’m feeling a lot better, calmer, happier (until next time!) and more like my old self again.  Now all I want is to lose a couple of stone…
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Phew!  Just under two weeks to go until the Grand Regency Promenade in beautiful Bath.  I’m so excited!!  At the moment I am working on my spencer (a short jacket) and cutting up lots of calico and turning it into scraps as I work on the mock-up…re-aligning seams and adjusting the fit.  As soon as I am happy with it I shall transfer the pattern to paper and make the garment proper.  So, I must crack on…the sleeves are the next bit to get cut out and fitted…fingers crossed…!!06prom12

I also have a tendency towards pink which I\’m trying desperately to get over. Now then, I have some ribbon, some fred, some fabric and some very stiff interfacing. Oh, and some time to do it all while you\’re at it. Some courage would be good too. THAT\’S IT! Ow, that hurt!Pieces all cut out Sandi and the pinned together mock makes me look like something out of Little House on the Prairie (I always loved that programme). About to pluck up the courage to cut the real material now.There\’s also a possible change of plan on the dress. I might go for the fourth one I made as the skirt is fuller so easier for getting about in(I have a long stride and trip up in my favourite one) Trouble is though, it\’s not finished. Knowing me, I\’ll decide at the last minute. Shoe problem is solved, I think. I have a pair of granny boots that I lived in last winter with my jeans. That\’s the woman I meant…there were also a couple of ladies with what looked like camera bags (probably just their everyday organiser bags with everything but the kitchen sink!) The men with their big bags were the musicians (for those who didn\’t know.) There is one lass in a white nighty-dress who is carrying no accessories, and with her hair loose…was that a mad look in her eye…?!! (Who let Mrs Rochester out…?!!!)I shall go on the train in my costume, but will change into my jeans afterwards, so Robert can make himself useful by carrying my bag for me…bless him.
