Yet Another Costume

October 19, 2009

It’s that time of the year again, and another costume is required. We have been invited to another Do at our local…this time it is (landlady) Tina’s birthday, but it seems that Hallowe’en is being thrown in, a week early, too…which is a good excuse for fancy dress.Fat%20Goth

Last year I threw together a Goth outfit, making a ‘handkerchief’-hemmed shirt, and a spider-web lace thingy that I wore over a black top, which was finished off with a studded belt, and a pendant that I bought in Poundland.

The skirt is now being ‘updated’, and the idea is to appliqué scraps of fabrics to create a bit of texture, and adding shades of greens and purples as I go. This will then be over-laid with embroidery threads, beads and sequins, etc., so long as I have enough time to do it…

Skirt 005

I have just laid the scraps on to the skirt, to get an idea how it will (hopefully) look, and to ‘jiggle’ them around, to get the best effect. The top is going to be a waistcoat/bolero/gillet type thingy, decorated in the same way, but with a bit more purple in it.

I have no problem accepting the Grumpy Old Fart tag as I work hard to cultivate the image. Laura\’s boyfriend is still scared to death of me after I made a crack about Laura being my baby girl and not being afraid of going back to prison. That was the night she brought him home to meet us and I just happened to be cleaning my guns at the time. Actually, he\’s a nice kid and I like him a lot but I remember what I was like at 16 (vaguely…..that was in the 60s after all) so keeping the fear of a horribly painful and violent death at the forefront in his mind is a good thing.Anne, you must have made medical history giving birth at such a very young age.*cough**cough**cough**cough* Oh God, I think I\’m coming down with pneumonia!

Actually…I was referring to myself as the Grumpy Old Git…not you.Ah, you are reminding me of my dad whenever Tom came round…one evening, he backed Tom into a corner, and while was talking to him, he pulled the washing line down. This he promptly let go off as he walked away, and the line sprung back up and under Tom\’s chin…! Why are dad\’s rotten to their daughter\’s boyfriends…?!

Because the boyfriend in question is interested in our baby girls, we were once boyfriends and we know what\’s going on inside that lump in between the boyfriend\’s ears. And don\’t go stomping off because I made a remark alluding to Anne\’s youth. You say you had the same needlepoint teacher so you must be just as young as she is. Either that, or y\’all went to school in one of our inner cities where the average student needs at least 8 years to finish 3rd grade…….and still doesn\’t know how to read or write.

Hey…I can have a hissy fit if I want! I was having a real swear-fest this afternoon! In order to avoid the schoolbrats on the bus, I left really early…wanting to be in town before three. I got to the bus stop, turned round to see the bus whizz past me…grrr no.1. I was standing at that bus stop for an hour (the buses are supposed to be every ten minutes!), and by the time the bus did turn up, in was jam-packed with noisy schoolbrats!! Grr no.2.By the time I got into town, I barely had time to go to M&S to buy a new pair of boots, before dashing to work! Bugger the rest of the shopping…ggrrr no.3! And so on…accumulating several more \’gggrrrrrs\’ and a heck of a lot of swearing and cursing (from someone who hates to hear others swearing and cursing!)After what I wrote on Debs\’s blog today, I really do have to learn to go with the flow instead of fighting what Life throws at me…and get back into meditating and relaxation again…! I know, blame me for asking for a new one for this year… I\’ll take a leaf out of her book and just get a hockey mask – I already have a couple of boiler suits and a butcher knife. Service, RM? What service? D\’you mean our so-called service…or what Simon has to \’offer\’…? Apparently Stagecoach have a lot of drivers off sick (sick of their bosses!), and to top that…the buses keep breaking down. We never had these problems, to this extent, when it was run by local bus companies…and now, buses are cancelled left, right and centre, resulting in more and more disgruntled passengers whose complaints are ignored.Robert, I had planned to make a top, covered in applique, to match the skirt, which I have only just started to add the applique to…then there is the embroidery, beads and sequins, and the lacey stuff the go over the top, with more strippy lace around the hem…also with black sequins added. No, I have only just started on it!!Anyway, I think that three metres of fabric would have been a better idea, for your cape, as it would allow for more \’swirl\’…! :-I

What you only have one tribe? I sometimes think where I live is entirely made up of Sasquatch\’s… oops that wasn\’t very nice of me now was it? I didn\’t mean to offend any Sasquatchs then!Oh I\’m bored and also really gutted because I found a fab web site that had some really nice corsets.. went to buy one and they only take credit cards :o(May have to email Brian the link because I don\’t do credit cards, if I haven\’t got it I can\’t spend it…

Hey! Am I missing the party again!!Sounds like you\’re describing half the population of Lincoln…you can\’t get away from \’em…teenage mums swearing at the snotty-nosed brats that will end up with ASBOs before they\’re five!!Eileen, I will only use a debit card, that way if I want something, I will have to have the money in the account first. I don\’t like credit cards…don\’t like paying the interest, either!!! So what is this corset website…?!

AHA!! I\’d just checked my stats and found that someone had been checking out Odds & Sods and this one…!I take it you were after one of the corset links…? I did start to write down all my favourite websites in a little notebook…then mislaid it! Oh, well, it was a good idea in theory!
