Today, I Are Mostly In Maidstone
February 20, 2009
Hello from sunny Maidstone…! OK, so it’s not sunny now, but it was earlier.
We left home just before eleven, and arrived here…er…after four sometime. It was really slow going once we got close to the Queen Elizabeth II Bridge, and when we got there I was craning my neck for a glimpse of the Thames…my first for thirty years!!
Looking west, I could see the bend in the river that led to Erith, my hometown…and how flat it all looked!!! But then again, there were the Erith Marshes, and Thamesmead, which was built on the marshes at Belvedere! How things change! Thirty years ago the river was busy with shipping and there were docks lining the banks with cranes and derricks (is that the correct spelling?) squeaking and creaking all day and night. Now, there was nothing!!
Anyway, we arrived in Maidstone, where we did a few laps of the one-way systems, before giving Anne a ring to ask for directions….but we got here…eventually! Yes, we past the turn off for her road a couple of times…because we turned right instead of left (the road disects the main road) and had to go round yet again…which was all good fun.
Robert has already been to the pub with Justin, leaving me and Anne to play catch-up. Well, not so much ‘catch-up’, as we can do that online, but have a nice cosy chin-wag over a desperately needed cup of tea…and talking of tea…I think it’s time for another…TTFN…XXX

Nice weather for a walk along the river.I very often used to go to Maidstone on business (decades ago) and used to love the hustle and bustle of this old market town. I understand there are all sorts of new roads alongside the river now but I am sure that the path alongside the Medway frrom the bridge will still be there and that is a pleasant walk on a mild day.
It all looks very nice along by the river…they have made it into a pleasant walk with benches to sit and admire the view…of all the new buildings. Maidstone is a lovely mix of very old to very new, and it all sits side by side…and I think it\’s fabulous. Lincoln, on the other hand refuses planning permission because "it\’s not in keeping with the historical look of the city…blah, blah, blah!!"
BLAH, BLAH, BLAH? Sandi? Oh you so make me smile………. Does this mean you will have a "ehem" headache in the morning? xx
No headache…though just how many halves I had I couldn\’t tell you…I lost count after three…!!!Had a brilliant weekend…it was fantastic to see both my old friends again, after so many years…!
Glad you had such a wonderful time Sandi xxx
